History of the Saturn V

Designed by a team led by Wernher von Braun at the Marshall Space Flight Center. The team started working on the design in the 1960s.

The first Saturn V launch lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on November 9, 1967

The Saturn V has launched 13 times at the Kennedy Space Center. NASA chose the Saturn V for their Apollo moon missions, including Apollo missions 11 & 13. The Saturn C-5 was NASA's first choice for the moon missions. Then, the Saturn V. The C-1 became the Saturn I, and C-1B became Saturn IB.

As of 2021, the Saturn V remains the only launch vehicle to carry humans beyond low Earth orbit.
