History of the Douglas DC-10
Not a World War II plane. Manufactured by the McDonnell Douglas aircraft company starting in 1968 in the United States. United Airlines and American Airlines put orders in for the plane that same year. The maiden flight was on August, 29, 1970 by American Airlines. The aircraft was created by the McDonnell aircraft corporation as a successor to the DC-8. The DC-10 was made for long range flights. Airlines needed a plane that could run on shorter runways.
